On the heels of being highlighted on the cover of Denver Life magazine for its dazzling philanthropic design contributions for the 2017 Denver Showhouse, Kimberly Timmons Interiors was in the spotlight once again during the recent Colorado Awards for Remodeling Excellence.
The annual event, recognizing the best in Colorado custom building and remodeling, was hosted Sept. 28 by the Custom Builders and Remodelers Council of the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver. And KTI, which entered the design contest for the first time, went home as the top-performing firm with 3 Gold awards, 1 Silver and overall Associate of the Year honors.
Commonly known as the CARE awards, this year’s festivities were held at CU South Denver Wildlife Experience and attended by 140 industry professionals and guests. The event is Colorado’s largest and longest-running contest recognizing architects, builders, designers, and others in the Metro Denver area who have demonstrated exemplary work specific to the remodeling industry.
One of KTI’s award-winning remodeling projects was the Lone Tree residence for Kristy and James Genuario. Situated in Celebrity Community’s upscale Heritage Hills development, KTI earned “Interior Remodel/Design Gold” and “Kitchen Remodel/Standard Silver” awards for the team’s work in renovating Genuario’s “Main Level” and “Kitchen,” respectively.
Kristy Genuario was very involved in the design direction and many KTI designers played a part in the final award-winning results. For example, prior KTI project manager Kelly Flynn worked with Exquisite Kitchen Design to kick start the kitchen renovation, while KTI project manager Kim McInnes and designer Nikki Holt collaborated on the Genuario’s new-look office and introduced new great room draperies and dining room artwork and accessories.
Company founder Kimberly Timmons-Beutner was also heavily involved in the overall project and designed all the millwork detailing of the 6,000-square-foot Genuario home, which was profiled in the Spring/Summer issue of Denver Life Home + Design magazine. Timmons-Beutner said it helped having a client who was so knowledgeable and trusting of her team’s design suggestions.
Another award-winning project for KTI was the “Bathroom Remodel/Standard Gold” honors at a 1978 Ranch home owned by Tracy and Brent Smith. The completely transformed Master Bathroom, highlighted by a custom designed “double sink floating storage cabinet” from YLiving, was stunning to say the least.
Meanwhile, Kimberly Timmons Interiors wrapped up the CARE event by receiving the Gold award in the category of Pro Bono work for the firm’s Designer Showhouse Dining Room work that benefitted Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver (read previous blogs) and earning prestigious overall Associate of the Year CARE honors
Unlike other HBA-sponsored design contests, the CARE Awards are open to the entire Colorado remodeling industry — not just to members of the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver. What makes CARE honors even more meaningful is the fact applicants are judged blind by local volunteers—including Colorado Homes & Lifestyles’ Senior Editor/Writer Michelle Johnson—making it a fair competition that recognizes excellence in remodeling above all else.
“We had a very exciting night considering it’s the first time we entered,” says Timmons-Beutner, whose company is entering its 20th year of business. “It’s a real honor for KTI to be recognized in this way, not only for our specific design projects, but our overall company achievements and philanthropic efforts. It truly is a team effort.”
