KTI Honored with 2010 Gold Nugget Merit Award for Renovated Golf Clubhouse

Kimberly Timmons Interiors was awarded a prestigious Gold Nugget Merit Award for the Best Rehab Commercial/Industrial Project for the Tonto Verde Golf Clubhouse in Rio Verde, Arizona. We partnered with SHJ Studio architects on the design of this project.

The design philosophy for the renovation of the 21,000 square foot Tonto Verde Golf Clubhouse was to maintain the architectural character of the building and transform the generic Southwest interior into a warm, inviting, timeless space by the strategic use of materials, colors and details.  Wood beams, timber decking, hand carved furnishings, leather, Navajo rugs, Indian pottery and commissioned art work combine to create a more fully realized Santa Fe style clubhouse.  These elements were also utilized to create lower, intimate spaces with enhanced acoustics.  A warm, naturalistic color palette was utilized throughout the interiors from the custom patterned carpets to wall and ceiling finishes that harmonize with the native desert setting.

New rustic wood columns, corbels, beams and lintels add character and authenticity to the uninspired Southwest exterior. These elements add welcome shade and shadow at the new arrival, dining and private dining terraces. The new covered terrace and expanded glazing in the Dining room combine to take full advantage of the spectacular views and indoor/outdoor lifestyle of the Rio Verde valley.  The transformed scale and character of the new Santa Fe style clubhouse allows it to sit well within the Sonoran Desert environment.

The improved club has increased resident patronage and reduced off-property dining excursions, contributing to significant increases in food and beverage sales. The Clubhouse is now the warm, inviting, functional, social center of this reinvigorated country club that its members envisioned.  In addition, the foundation for a strong economic base has been assured for the future.
